Family Information Packet you will receive in the mail this week. Registration forms are due in the church office by August 31.

Master Teachers presents....Current Events in the United
Methodist Church. Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Tracy Smith Malone
offers an
update on denominational
current events and an overview of the highlights of the 2008 General and
Jurisdictional Conferences.
Inquiring minds that are
interested in staying attuned to denominational happenings will find this time
helpful and informative. Join

Ministry
Fair at 10 AM in the Commons TODAY. Check out the many different opportunities
for adults this fall. Materials and leaders will be on hand to help you decide
how to get connected with God and others in the coming months.
Discover
Gary – No Strings Attached. If you are new(er) to Gary and would like to
learn more about the church, you are invited to
“Discover Gary” at 10 AM, today, Sunday
August 24. This one-time gathering (held
the 4th Sunday of each month) offers an
opportunity to ask questions and hear about
our ministries in an informal, no strings attached setting. Meet at the Welcome Desk in
the main level Commons.
Confirmation Parent Orientation,
August 27, 6:00PM – 6:45 PM.
Parents
of this year’s 8th grade Confirmation students are invited to
join us to review curriculum, expectations,
the schedule and a time of Q&A. We
will meet in the Jr. High Room. If you

"Exploring Membership" classes will be
held September 7 & 14 at 10 AM for anyone interested in or considering membership
at
Gary
Church. In these classes, the pastoral
staff will cover topics such as what it means to be United Methodist, the
responsibilities
and value
of membership, and opportunities to make a difference and build lasting
friendships. While attendance is not
mandatory
for
membership, it is recommended. Those who
choose to make a commitment for membership will be invited to come forward on

Introducing a New Faith
experience for kids on Sundays, beginning September 7, from 9 to 10:50 AM–

This new format is designed to create more
integrated and cohesive Christian education experience for the kids – a place

meet Monday, August 25 at 7 PM in the Heritage room.

and West Garden shrub and tree plantings available for memorials or honorariums to provide an opportunity for
you to
remember or honor loved ones and
friends. Donations fund individual and
groupings of plants, including a plaque recognizing your
loved one.

The Lunchtime Literary Society
will meet Tuesday, September 23
to discuss Elizabeth Gaskell's Cranford. Note change in selection.

Mission
& Outreach
Emmaus Road Initiative, Thursday, Sept 4. Gil Baillie, noted theologian and lecturer,
will be presenting the first of several sessions on
Inspiring
Whole Hearted Faith in a Half-Hearted World.
The 2 hour session begins at 7 PM in Gary’s Sanctuary. More information is in

Gary Church to
host P.A.D.S. homeless shelter at 1st Congregational Church, Glen Ellyn on
August 31 and September 7.
If you
are able to help provide part of a meal for supper, breakfast
or sack lunch, sign up sheets are in the Commons. If you have any

DuPage
P.A.D.S. Run/Walk to be held Saturday, September 6, 8 AM.
Proceeds will fund various programs within the P.A.D.S.
organization such as counseling, employment
readiness and supportive housing for the homeless in DuPage County. For more

Gary
Church sponsored family needs occasional childcare. This family, sponsored through Bridge
Communities, consists of a mom
and 2 school-aged children. Volunteers are needed at their home in Glen
Ellyn every other Thursday from 6:30 – 9 PM.

New batch of Guatemalan Coffee has arrived! Your donation of $12 will help fund a
teacher's salary at the Fundaninos orphanage.

Church Parking
Numerous parking
spaces now available on Sunday mornings for Gary Church. Both sides of Hultgren Funeral Home (just
north of
the church) are available for our use
as well as the small lot connected to
Gary’s parking lot to the south. Street
parking is available
on Karlskoga (just south of the parking
lot) and around Adams and Memorial Parks.
If you are a Gary member, please be sure to
leave the special marked visitor parking
spaces in our lot open for our guests.
Something new
from Gary’s kitchen on Wednesdays…
Beginning September 3…Let’s gather together to take
a midweek break to nourish soul and body.
We welcome you to a freshly prepared homemade meal and an opportunity
for fellowship with friends as you relax around the table. We’ll provide the menus in each Sunday’s
announcements page, and ask that you make a reservation. Just call the church office (630-668-3100),
email (office@garychurch.org) by
noon on Tuesdays, or fill in this form and return to the church office. Dinners will be from 5 to 6:30 PM each
Wednesday. Everyone is encouraged to
come have dinner with us. Then
worship together at Shine! at
6:50 PM.
