About Gary Church |
OUR 1930 congregation was proud of its new church because not only was it
cited by the Chicago World's Fair as the most beautifully designed church
of its period
but it received the first place award by the American
Architect's Association for churches of its class. ITS style is modified perpendicular gothic, an architectural style which flourished abroad during the 15th century. The style achieves gracefulness and spaciousness through the use of many large windows which depict in a forceful way the simple and dynamic stories of the Bible and our heritage.

ONLY the rose window above the altar was installed at the time of the
church's dedication.
The Great East Window was the second window presented to
the church in 1945. ALL the windows and many of the furnishings at Gary are gifts or memorials
from the congregation. These gifts remind us of the saints who preceded us
and
who are with us now and who will be symbols of the great procession to new
generations of Gary Memorial United Methodist Church members. THE history of Gary Memorial reads almost as that of the founding of
the City of Wheaton itself.
Descendants of the City's founding fathers are members of our
congregation today. THE activity of God in history has always focused on people. The portals of Gary Church are forever open to everyone. Join us as we gather in worship, fellowship, ministry and service -- and as we contribute our part to Christ's unfolding Church in our time and in our place.
