Debra Hafner
Church Secretary

Every time the church secretary position opened I felt a nudge to be there. But I ignored it. I was too busy, paid too much money in the job I had, needed benefits – all the usual excuses. Finally, in the fall of 1995, working 2nd shift and trying to juggle baby sitting, children’s activities and family life, I received a call out of the blue from the church saying the secretary position was open, and would I be interested.  I finally listened to the nudge and said OK. From day one, I have felt like I had come home. My ministry to Gary Church is to make it feel like home, to be cheerful under all circumstances and to work effectively and flexibly in a Christian environment.

I am a 1985 graduate of Westmar University, LeMars, Iowa, with B.A. degrees in English and Music, and have a teaching certificate in English. I have held many jobs that have prepared me for this job of church secretary. These have included working in all aspects of the weekly Rockwell City Advocate newspaper, managing a Christian bookstore, working at Spiegel, Inc as a customer service representative and then as a typist and a proofreader, and at Safeguard Business Systems proofing business checks and forms.

I have been married to Todd Hafner since June 1985 and we have four children, AJ, Ben, Manuel and Juan Carlos.
I have been a member of Gary Church since 1986 and am currently involved in Altar Bells, United Methodist Women and teaching 2nd grade Sunday School.
