Pastor Taveirne's Pac Tour 2004 Northern Transcontinental

July 20-August 12, 2004

On August 5th the bikers traveled between Beloit, WI and Dwight, IL.
Seventeen Gary folks met E. in Sheridan, IL.

Rev. E. Taveirne grew up in Fox Lake, IL. His father was a school superintendent and his mother taught business. Education was always important in his family. After having received his B.A. in Religious Studies at North Central College in Naperville, IL, he studied at Southern Methodist University's Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, TX. He has served at Grace United Protestant in Park Forest, First Church in Elmhurst and has been for the last ten years the Senior Pastor at the Gary Memorial United Methodist Church in Wheaton, IL where he boasts of possessing one of the best staffs and church communities assembled since Apostolic times, albeit unfinished as it is.

He has traveled and studied widely throughout the world. He feels strongly that a church fails to be The Church if it is not in mission -- putting hands and feet to the gospel, aiding the home-less, those imprisoned, those in need. He has found life and joy in what he refers to as one of "the brightest lights United Methodism possesses " --- its Russia Initiative where he has provided leadership in taking United Methodism's brand of Jesus' ministry to the northern White Sea port City of Arkhangelsk, Russia where he is involved in work with orphans.

Of Belgian descent, Rev. Taveirne brings to his calling an un-harnessed energy, a love of bible, church history and, most important, people.
