Gleaning project
August 19, 2002 - I came home today
from a wonderful trip to New York's Finger Lakes region to find two emails from
our Hunger Relief Advocate, Joe Royston. In case you haven't heard, on Saturday,
August 3, they had 81 volunteers from 19 different United Methodist Churches glean 6,000
pounds of potatoes and 3,000 pounds of sweet corn. Math isn't my strong point
but I think I figured that those numbers mean each volunteer averaged about 110
pounds! Fabulous. Lots of people will and have been fed because of your caring
spirit and faith and that of many others.
Better yet, Joe has confirmed another gleaning date:
Saturday, October 12, also at Neumiller Farms. The time is the same. I'm marking
my calendar now -- I know I won't be going on vacation, that's for sure!
Also, Joe and the folks at FUMC in Downers Grove are planning a potato drop on September 28, 2002 at the conference-wide Youth Rally.
More information on that as soon as possible.
Thanks again for all your support of this important
project, through you thoughts, prayers and actions. Please don't hesitate to
call or email me if you have any
questions.
Peace,
Greg Crawford
